Cheffins announces first dedicated Jewellery, Silver and Watches Auction

Jewellery, silver and watches auction to take place on 25th October 2018

This landmark sale will sit within the firm’s already comprehensive calendar of specialist and general auctions and is scheduled to take place twice a year moving forwards. It will be hosted at the Cheffins sale rooms in central Cambridge and all consignments will be available to preview from the 21st – 24th October.

Steven Collins, Head of Jewellery, Silver and Watches at Cheffins comments: “We are pleased to be offering the region’s first dedicated jewellery, silver and watches auction which has already consigned a comprehensive selection of lots from across East Anglia and further afield. It was an obvious move within the Cheffins' calendar as the jewellery market has seen meteoric price rises over the past decade. With unbroken value uplifts across all sectors of the market, Art Deco pieces in particular have set the pace with a 93 per cent increase in value over the past decade.* Similarly, prices for vintage and classic watches have also continued to hold firm, with models from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s now making large sums at auction. The silver market also remains strong, particularly for the most highly-regarded silversmiths from the Art Deco and Art Nouveau eras whose work is regularly making six figures.”

“Already consigned within the sale are vintage lady’s and gentlemen’s watches from Rolex, Omega and Breitling in addition to modern examples from Versace, Georg Jensen and Alexis Barthelay. Amongst the jewellery section are pieces from the likes of Tiffany and Paul Spurgeon, as well as a selection of beautiful Art Nouveau, Edwardian and Victorian items. Amongst the silver there is an Art Deco piece from Cartier as well as Georgian pieces from famous names such as Paul Storr and Hester Bateman, as well as Scottish provincial items.”

Steven Collins joined Cheffins in April and has over 30 years in the industry. Previously having worked for Asprey, Garrard & Co, the London Assay Office and a series of other reputable jewellers, Steven is an FGA and DGA qualified gemmologist with international experience in the buying and grading of gem stones. He also has significant experience in the identification of Rolex, Omega and other leading wristwatch brands as well as extensive knowledge of antique silverware.

The closing date for entries for this landmark sale is the 7th September 2018.
