Over 100 classic and vintage tractors, 35 classic commercials and a series of modern vehicles and trailers went under the hammer on Saturday 30th September with Cheffins.
Hosted at the former Derek Cooper Transport Yard in Risby, near Bury St Edmunds, the classic commercial vehicles section saw some stellar prices with many lots reaching well above expectations. A 1976 Volvo F88-32 achieved the highest price in this section, eventually selling at £43,000 against its guide price of £35,000, whilst a 1963 Ford Thames Trader was sold for £22,000, doubling its lower estimate of £12,000. Similarly a 1978 Foden S80 sold well, finally achieving £30,000 and a 1978 Volvo F86-30 was sold for £42,000.
In addition, records were broken in the tractor section as a 1953 Field Marshall Series 3A sold for £22,000, the highest price ever paid for one of these sought-after models. Other lots which achieved high prices include £15,200 for a Marshall Model M and £11,800 for a 1964 Roadless Super Major. Tractors which achieved competitive bidding also include a John Deere 4010 which sold for £8,200; a 1988 Ford 7810 which sold for £14,000; £7,500 for a Massey Ferguson 65 and £9,100 paid for a 1967 International B-450.
Bill King, Chairman, Cheffins comments:“The sale day saw hundreds of collectors and enthusiasts come together for one of the largest vintage collective sales we have seen this year. We had buyers from all four corners of the UK, with one gentleman travelling all the way to Risby from the Shetland Isles. Many of the interesting machines on offer had been regulars at vintage shows and rallies and achieved high prices, proving that there still is an incredibly buoyant market for these types of items. Our next vintage sale will be on the 14th October and we are hoping to be able to achieve similar prices for our vendors at that event as well as helping buyers to source that one special tractor or commercial vehicle for their collections.”
