Cheffins beefs up machinery team with key new hire

David Wilson joins Cheffins as Machinery Valuer

David Wilson has joined the Machinery team after over 28 years in the agricultural machinery industry. David previously worked at Standen Engineering Ltd, the leading UK manufacturer and worldwide exporter of potato planting and harvesting machinery. At Standen Engineering, David held the role of Company Sales Director since 2010 and handled all UK and export sales.

In his new role at Cheffins, David will be working as the machinery valuer for the on-site team, assisting with Cambridge machinery sales at Sutton and applying his extensive knowledge of the root crop industry to attract new business and provide specialist advice to Cheffins’ unrivalled customer base.

Led by Bill King and Bill Pepper, the Cheffins second-hand machinery department has gone from strength to strength with 2017 reported as the most profitable year for the sector since 2013. The on-site team has similarly seen unprecedented growth in activity with 25 on-farm sales taking place across the UK last year.

Bill King, Chairman, Cheffins comments:“We are thrilled to welcome David to the team and are sure that his wealth of experience will help us to drive Cheffins forward in all areas of the industry. As on-farm sales continue to increase in regularity and with last year’s sales grossing over £10m, David will be essential in helping us to consign some of the best equipment for the UK’s leading on-site sales. He is a particular specialist in root crop equipment and we are looking forward to him being able to provide advice on these items to our customer base and to increase our sales of this type of machinery.”

David Wilson adds:“Cheffins is a business with a great history and integrity within the farming community and I am pleased to be joining a firm with such a strong reputation. The team at Sutton has created an auction and valuation business which is unrivalled in the UK and I look forward to being able to use my knowledge of the machinery industry within my new role.”
