Buoyant Trade On The Fen

Major on site auction sale for Taylor Farms Industries

On Wednesday 8th March 2017, Cheffins conducted a major onsite auction for Taylor Farms Industries Ltd at Carlisle Farm, Little Downham near Ely.  With over 350 lots of well-maintained kit including irrigation equipment, machinery, tractors and sprayers, we were set for a busy sale.

Prospective purchasers came from all four corners of the country and some even further. The Taylor family had certainly looked after their machinery and this coupled with working on light fen soil meant there was a lot of pre-sale interest.  This all resulted in some enthusiastic bidding with a brace of Case IH tractors selling well with a 2013 215 making £46,200 and a 2009 140 topping £24,800.  With a general shortage in the UK of straight from farm tractors, trade continued well with a 2010 John Deere 8345RT hitting £64,500and a useful Ford TW-25 making £5,700.

Harvesters were also in good demand with a 2004 Claas Lexion 580 on tracks knocking down for a resounding £67,500, potato harvesters were of particular interest with a 2005 Grimme SF1700DLS self-propelled machine going across the water for £55,000 and a 2009 Grimme GT170S selling to Lincolnshire for £32,500.  Perhaps the biggest highlight was the very smart 2013 Amazone Pantera 4001 selling for a mighty £104,500 to a local farmer/contractor.

Machinery trade was equally electrifying with a 2011 Miedema Structural PM2000RH 2row planter selling locally for £18,500, a 2007 Standen Pearson Powavator PV400/200 made £7,400.  A pair of ploughs sold well having only worked the light ground with a Kverneland LO85 6furrow taking £7,800 and a 2004 Lemken Europal 8 6furrow at £6,400.  Completing the machinery highlights was a 2003 Simba Horsch 4CO drill at £7,300 and a 2005 Mashio Reco Tiller 6000 power sold for £6,400.

A fantastic result with some excellent prices achieved throughout the sale.  Machinery trade remains very strong with a general shortage of second equipment coming to the market.  With encouraging potato prices and a sale in early March this was the ideal time to capture this market.  For future on site auction sale dates please click here.
